It seems the cage and chain were staged in the most recent hostage video of Kenneth Bigley just to "terrorize" the British populace. A raid was made at Paul Bigley's residence, brother of the hostage, in an attempt to gather information. He is suspected of having contacts in Iraq and possibly with the terrorist group, Tawhid and Jihad run by al-Qaeda operative Abu Musab Zarqawi, which is holding his brother.

Paul Bigley's computer was seized and he was interrogated about his alleged contact with the Tawhid and Jihad group, which yesterday claimed responsibility for Thursday's killing of at least 35 children in Baghdad.

In Fallujah, Mohammed Kasim, an Iraqi-born gunman with a British passport, said the latest video of Mr Bigley showing him shackled in a cage had been staged to "terrify" the British public.

The Bigley family will take renewed hope from the account offered by Kasim.
"If they wanted to kill him they would have done this immediately after they kidnapped him," said Kasim.
"Instead they want to use him to press on the British kingdom." Kasim, 35, is one of two Britons believed to have joined the "resistance" in Fallujah, a stronghold of armed opposition to the US-led presence in Iraq.
This doesn't really surprise me if true. They want to make his captivity look as gruesome as possible to try and cause uprisings similar to
what happened in the Philippines who bowed under some public protesting and pulled troops out and paid a ransom.
I'm sure Zarqawi see's the chatter going n in Britain and hopes to encourage the same weak spined actions to take place.

I don't know about this Digger. You may be rushing to judgement concerning this story. After all, all we know that authorities searched Bigley's brother's house and suspect Kenneth Bigley of running free within in a Zarqawi house.
Yes, Bigley sitting behind a suposed cage with a chain around his neck was clearly staged. We all knew that when we saw it, but isn't that exactly what Zarqawi would do? This in no way means that Bigley is out of danger or free to go. I don't believe Bigley would stay inside the house if he could leave. Zarqawi did brutally kill his two friends, co-workers and roomates less than two weeks ago.
It is obvious that Zarqawi is keeping him alive for the reason you gave, but that doesn't mean that Bigley is staying there to prove a political point. Am I missing something else here that would lead some to come to the conclusion that Bigley is drinking wine with Zarqawi and laughing at Blair?
