Feds Suspend 287(g) After Supreme Court Rules Arizona Can Detain Illegal Aliens Caught In Other Crimes

Bookmark and Share

The Obama Administration once again has decided that it will ignore laws and criminals. Its latest move is to end the 287(g) program - another edict from on high. The program allowed states to screen inmates and those arrested - through federal immigration databases - to determine their legal status. Then, local law enforcement would turn those found to be illegally in the country over to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for deportation. It is a clear case of common sense to any citizen that things should work this way the way our system is currently set up.

However, the program hasn't been a total bed of roses. Since its inception years ago, local law enforcement has complained that ICE is unresponsive. They choose not to pick up illegal alines and therefore the states are forced to foot the bill to keep them incarcerated on their already stretched budgets - while the feds have pretty near unlimited funds at their disposal to cure the situation.

This was not just under Obama, but under Bush as well and is quite telling on the view of the federal government - and in particular the Executive branch of the president and his appointees - regarding dealing with criminal illegal aliens. Remember, these were people already picked up on other crimes. They weren't just pulled off the street at the local Home Depot.

It is quite clear the current administration - and the federal government as a whole - wants illegal aliens to remain in this country.

There are many who sympathize with illegal aliens in this country. It is obvious that these people do not live in communities that have been overrun with illegal aliens. It is impossible for them to live in these communities because if they did they would see the impact. Despite the media view of the hardworking illegal alien, many are terrorizing citizens through stealing identities, causing death, mayhem, gang activity, drugs and generally destroying communities through the culture clash they bring of trash ridden streets and overcrowded single family homes.

Last week Obama "amended" immigration law by edict, declaring that illegal aliens who are 30 years old or younger and were brought to the US in the last 5 years by no will of their own (which would mean a 25 year old man qualifies as involuntarily coming here) would not be deported. Today the Supreme Court sided with Arizona that they can enforce immigration law as far as checking ID papers and turning aliens over to ICE if their status is not legal. Today Obama suspends the 287(g) program which goes a long way in allowing local law enforcement to determine that someone is illegal through screening jail inmates and arrested felons. This program was put in place to assist the feds in enforcing immigration laws since the feds cannot be everywhere and at every crime.

Is there any doubt that the federal government at this moment in time is in violation of its duties to enforce the law? It is obvious they want illegal aliens here. It is obvious that they don't want law enforcement to determine if someone is illegal. As the story reports below, they are now going to "selectively" pick and choose what criminals they choose to detain and deport. Some criminals are more equal than others.

It is the job of the Legislative branch to pass and amend laws. It is the Judicial branch that determines the intent of the law.

It is important to note that the Executive branch of government is sworn to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and enforce the laws. Not rewrite them, not amend them, not ignore them, but enforce them!

How does this instill faith in the American People that laws that are on the books are anything other than ink on a page. If they can ignore laws that they just don't feel like obeying what will they choose to ignore next? Will it be one that protects you and your rights?

In the wake of the Supreme Court's decision on Arizona's immigration law, Obama administration officials announced Monday they are suspending in the state a key program that allowed state and local law enforcement to enforce federal immigration law.

...

Officials also said Immigration and Customs Enforcement will be selective in responding to the expected increase in calls from Arizona and other police agencies about immigration status of people they pull over. Officials said ICE will not respond to the scene unless the person in question meets certain criteria -- such as being wanted for a felony.

Selective enforcement is arbitrary enforcement. The law was not meant to be that way, where one set of people can determine which laws to follow so that groups they agree with benefit over others. It's supposed to be equal rights under the law. In this case it's unequal and unbalanced favoring illegal aliens over United States citizens. And The People are paying for this.
