Word is coming in from the head of Save Shenandoah, Joe Miller, that the Mayor of Shenandoah, PA, Tom O'Neill, resigned at the City Council meeting tonight after demands were made from those in the community that he should do so. The Mayor stated that his resignation is due to his wife's illness, and that it will be effective January 1, 2009.

However, there was no talk of his resigning before the demands from the community and the recent rallies put on by Voice of the People USA and Save Shenandoah in the community. Residents were fed up with his inaction on issues in the community including crime, illegal immigration and the decline throughout the community due to those two issues.

There were two recent rallies in Shenandoah after the Mayor sided with MALDEF, LULAC and the ADL when they came to town after the death of an illegal alien in a fight on July 12, 2008. The first rally drew 600 residents who were outraged that the Mayor would stand with the race baiting groups instead of the residents of his community. The second rally was over this past weekend where speakers encouraged residents to get active, attend the Council meetings and join the Crime Watch.

Current word is that one of the Council Members will assume the role of Mayor in the interim.

There aren't currently any news stories out on the resignation as the meeting was tonight at 7PM and I just got the word after the meeting at 8:30PM. As soon as there are news stories I'll post them.
