I just couldn't believe this and actually burst out laughing when I read it. Not because I'm "pro sodomizing with poles", but because of the absolute absurdity of this article about immigration reform and those opposed to illegal immigration.
The article starts out reporting on those against illegal aliens burning a Mexican flag at the Mexican consulate and then for no apparent reason brings up a case of Texas teens David Henry Tuck and Keith Turner who sodomized a Hispanic boy with a pole while shouting "White Power".
The milder end of the spectrum includes the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, who spot for illegal entrants crossing the borders from Mexico and Canada, and councilors in towns and cities from California to Pennsylvania who vote to curb landlords from renting to undocumented immigrants.
The wilder fringe stretches from activists who burn Mexican flags -- like Pauly and his eye patch-wearing companion Laine Lawless -- to brutal thugs like a Texan teenager sentenced to 90 years in jail in December for sodomizing a Hispanic youth with a pole.
I mean this is just uncalled for and was so out of place the absurdity of it made me actually chuckle out loud. I have been covering this issue daily for half a decade now and I have heard of some fist fights over the immigration issue and Hispanics shooting at some white people after an argument over immigration, but there are not massive groups of "thugs" roaming the streets executing illegal aliens and sodomizing them with poles like this story would have you believe.
This reporter, Tim Gaynor of Reuters, should be fired for his outrageous statement.
Let's take a look at the Keith Turner and David Henry Tuck conviction this reporter was associating with those against illegal immigration.
A 17-year-old was sentenced to 90 years in prison for an hours-long attack on a boy who was beaten, kicked, stomped, burned and sodomized with the plastic pole of a patio umbrella.
Turner was the second teen convicted of aggravated sexual assault in the April attack. David Henry Tuck, 18, was convicted and sentenced to life in prison on November 16.
Prosecutors said the attack was racially motivated, in part because the 17-year-old victim is Hispanic and Tuck espoused white-supremacist beliefs.
Turner, Tuck, the victim and two other teens were partying at a house in Spring, north of Houston, drinking and taking cocaine and Xanax.
According to testimony, the attack was triggered by the victim's drunken pass at a 12-year-old girl.
Tuck shouted racial slurs and ''white power'' as he and Turner attacked the victim, sodomized him with the umbrella pole and poured bleach on him in an assault that lasted up to five hours.
Doctors initially did not expect the victim to survive. He was hospitalized for more than three months and underwent 20 to 30 operations. He testified at Turk's trial that he remembered nothing of the assault.
Is there anything in the story about the immigration status of the victim? No, this was a case of white supremacists and a race based attack. To insinuate that this act was committed over immigration is just a total disgrace. An obvious attempt to tie immigration activists and groups like the Minuteman Project with this unrelated attack on a Hispanic man.
