Information came from Kim Dvorak, of the San Diego Examiner, that there was a second source within law enforcement confirming that Los Zetas had crossed the border into Texas and seized several ranches. Later on in the day a third source was found. I ran an update on my article that this story was confirmed and decided to push it out to others at around 1:45PM on July 24, 2010. The truth must be known.
I was contacted by The Cypress Times who wanted to run the story on their website. Permission was granted and they released a copy of my story a little bit later. Kim Dvorak also ran her story on the incident. I updated my story again and linked to her story.
Within an hour the story ignited and started to spread across the internet. People were trying to find out further information. The Laredo Police Department, Webb County Sheriff's office and local media later said they were being flooded with calls nationally for confirmation of the story. I contacted Dvorak and asked if there was further information. She hinted that the sources were contemplating coming forward and information gathering continued. I could only speculate at the time, but it seemed to me that her sources were skittish and becoming more so as the night wore on. They eventually decided not to come forward. Why is unclear, but as the story progresses I have some opinions which I will go into later.
Large websites had also run the story. Many of them do not cover immigration or border security with any regularity and do not have any knowledge of what has been occurring along our southern border on a daily basis. This would become evidently clear in the coming days.
Within hours I started receiving emails asking whether the story was true and if I had more information. I did not at the time and I replied to all that it was a true story and that when proof came forward it would be released. The emails became more vicious. Then there were emails I started receiving that I was pushing a hoax or outright lying. I replied that I stand by the story. The emails then started demanding that we "out" our sources. This is something that I found incredible and I wrote as such. They were not willing for the sources to come out on their own; these people wanted us to put them at risk. Remember, this all occurred within hours of the story breaking.
Having received so many questioning contacts and confusing responses from law enforcement and media in the area seeming to have no interest in actually hunting down the story, I started to realize that there was something bigger going on. A media blackout was suspected, but at this point in time I believe that it is total media incompetence. Rather than repeat myself over and over I started to contemplate why this would be covered up.
I published an article entitled "Why The Los Zetas Ranch Story Matters - Confirmation And Why A Media Blackout?" stating that I had no new information at the time and that I stood by the story. I also laid out potential reasons why the incident was being covered up, settling on my personal belief that possibly the incident was still going on and local law enforcement was waiting on federal assistance and didn't want media in the area until it was resolved. I no longer believe that. I now believe that there is incompetence by the media and an obvious political cover-up of the events that occurred along our border in Laredo, Texas.
I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but what happened next seemed to come straight out of the Twilight Zone.

i live right by these ranches. in fact i ride mountain bike trails by the river, and lately i have seen lots of illegals crossing bulky bags into texas, i usually ride around these guys , the border patrol is a joke here, these alien guys have the b.p. guys timed, they cross at their leisure, these b.p. guys i think are afraid of confronting the aliens. this IS their job. i know the politics of laredo, been here for 40+ years, it's crooked as chicago/n.y. here. put it to u like this , our previous POLICE CHIEF, augustin dovalina and 2 of his police men doing time for racketeering and other criminal charges done right here in laredo while they are in command of p.d dept. here, very very crooked , as is the sheriff's dept. just as crooked. so ya it's a cover up dude!!!!
