Harvard economist George Borjas has found in a study commissioned by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office that Arizona workers lose out on $1.4 billion per year due to businesses hiring illegal aliens. The study also finds that Arizona workers unemployment is increased by the presence of illegal aliens. The second finding should be no surprise really.
Meanwhile governors like Janet Napolitano are fiddling while their state burns and her people suffer.
Of course the Arizona Star seems to be confused because they call them "illegal entrants" and "illegal border crossers". What the hell is wrong with these writers today? I'm assuming it's the editors of the paper, but they refuse to call them the legal term "illegal alien" and instead seem to be trying to obfuscate the issue by making up other names apparently in an attempt to be politically correct and not offend someone. Who are they not trying to offend? Presumably the illegal aliens.
Hardest hit in both wages and job availability, he said, are high school dropouts who, at the bottom of the wage scale, are the ones most likely to be competing with illegal immigrants.
Thomas said the Borjas study shows why he should be allowed to enforce the law, most specifically the conclusion that low-skilled legal workers are being paid 4.7 percent less than they would otherwise make if they were not competing against illegal immigrants.
It's great ploy for business people to keep their wages low, not offer medical insurance and pocket great profits. All the while the people working for these crap wages have to use tax payer supported hospitals and get food stamps and housing payments.
I live along the central california coast as a security guard. One of my assignments is to assist truck drivers who shuttle workers to the Diablo Canyon nuclear facility.
Like most people, I like to establish working relationships; it makes the job easier. Recently, I met a personable, hard working illegal alien who could baarreellyy speak english who was hired as a bus driver named "Jorge." He informed me is working a temporary assignment of only five months at a rate of $25.44 per hour.
He acquired the job by paying a driving school $3,000. Smart. Insightful. Most of us should take the opportunity available to us. A pity it takes a foreign national to show the way. I'm jealous. Apparently if you become certified anyone becomes qualified for the job.
Taking the jobs Americans don't want to do indeed...

Don't forget the other terms used to obfuscate such as "migrants" which seems to be a favorite label for illegals in Europe that many in our media have picked up on. I have had to setup Google News Alerts with all these new terms so I can actually find stories on "illegal aliens" when the media would prefer that we don't find these stories AND their common thread which is that they are doing a huge amount of damage to our economy and our job base, our ability to live in peace and for some of us, our ability to live at all!

To Ken Pope - funny that you would admire someone who came to this country through the BACK DOOR and did so knowing he was violating our immigration laws. I don't think that is someone to admire. He is TAKING a job that should be for an American and you admire him? So he is resourceful in his quest to cut in line in front of other LEGAL immigrants doing it the right way? I'm sure there are a lot of very resourceful and creative BANK ROBBERS too. Do you admire them also?
Instead of being admiring and jealous of illegal aliens like "Jorge" why don't you get off your rear end and do something about the fact that this turd is taking yet another job that should be held by an American??
