The story of Elvira Arellano, the illegal alien hiding out in a church to avoid deportation, shows the mentality of most illegal aliens in this country. They will not leave unless they are forcibly taken in cuffs and physically removed. Illegal aliens will hide wherever they can, break any laws they don't agree with and defraud as many tax payers as they can as long as they can avoid being sent back to the country they ran from and remain here.

Elvira Arellano just shows exactly how many illegal aliens will voluntarily "self deport" themselves under any plan put together by Congress that requires them to return to their home country before applying to come under a "temporary guest worker" program. That number is virtually zero. Why should they leave when they know that they can continue to break the laws and remain here as they have for years? Most of the proposed Comprehensive Immigration Reform bills ignore enforcement. They claim that they can both crack down on illegal immigration and increase legal "temporary" immigration at the same time. It's a plan that outright failed in 1986 and it is destined to fail again if implemented.

The lengths illegal aliens will go to in order to avoid deportation are clearly shown in the Elvira Arellano case. They will hide in holes and find those who are willing to aid them. They will claim discrimination. They will claim humanitarian reasons, though they will not be persecuted if sent back to countries like Mexico. On the contrary In countries like Mexico they will be patted on the back and encouraged to try again. Illegal aliens will cry racism. They will cry about being the backbone of America's economy. They will cry that they are doing the jobs Americans won't do. The reality is that they will cry just about anything as long as they are allowed to remain and avoid being held accountable for breaking the law. The reality is that America would do just fine without them.

For those out there who actually think that these people will voluntarily return to their country and wait in a line that they have already skipped you are deluding yourself. I feel that most people who are supporting these approaches simply are ignorant or ignoring the current problem of illegal immigration. Most probably live in places like upstate New York where I currently live. Upstate New York doesn't seem to have much of an illegal alien problem that is apparent and therefore it is ignored by many that live here. I previously lived in Sacramento, California and have dealt with the illegal alien issue first hand in the schools, hospitals and their drain on the taxpayers. Let me remind you that we are all Americans and we should not allow Americans in border states, and other states where illegal immigration has increased, to have their communities torn apart simply because it's not happening to you...yet.

While it may not be directly affecting you now, if the problem continues and we allow those like Elvira Arellano to avoid being deported at all costs, you eventually will be dealing with this in the near future. The illegal immigration population has exploded over the past 20 years as can be witnessed by the recent marches of illegal aliens through our streets. If you think a problem of that size isn't going to continue to grow then you're only fooling yourself.
