The Most Corrupt Countries In The World

There is corruption everywhere in the world. This is no secret to anyone, but just how corrupt are certain countries? Transparency International released their list and there are a number of interesting things of note.

There are a lot of "ties" on the list where countries received the same score, but I find the ones below particularly telling.

I decided to research this in response to a comment on another entry that Italy is just as corrupt as the Philippines. Obviously looking below that is nowhere near the truth.

Of particular note is the corruption in India that is on par with Iran. Keep in mind that we send a lot of data processing work over there in the form of outsourcing for health records, taxes and credit card information. Do you really want a country as corrupt as India handling your call center work? They have access to your clients credit card information, social security information and other sensitive data? I think not!

And people wonder why I call for the overthrow of the Philippine government. Just have a look below for the reasons why. The Philippines is as corrupt as Libya!

As for Mexico, it speaks for itself. With so much corruption there our illegal alien problem won't be going away anytime soon unless we take it upon ourselves. Also keep in mind that these Mexican corrupt officials are the same ones courting our politicians here on everything from our immigration laws to our economic policy regarding trade. It's really disgusting.

Transparency Int'l prepares a corruption "perception" index. It is based on feedback from business persons and travelers. It is NOT based on a comprehensive analysis of the countries.

Had you read their website, you would have known that.

That wasn't what I meant...had you viewed my site with a little thoroughness, you might have realized that. But no matter...I just thought there were a number of topics here, that had a small relavence there, that you might find interesting...if not, no biggie.

Looking at the table, I'd say the Philippines is doing well. Since it's at par with those corrupt countries, it's still doing well(compared to those which it ranked with)

In the list, i found it is a pure propaganda against Muslim Countries. On what basis you have done this survey.
I stayed in Saudi Arabia for so many years, i did not find a single instance of Bribary.I over speeded my car, did not put my belt & I was fined so many times, but police never asked me money.I used to do so much work in the Government offices, never i found a single case of corruption. There is corruption in Saudi but not to the level you have mentioned & it may be in the ministerial level. You have listed Saudi almost near to India where nothing works without money. It starts from the lowest level to the highest level.Even to enter a Govt office, the secrity man has to be bribed. You check your method of survey, may be it needs to be corrected.I feel saudi should come to the bottam level of corruption.

I've been to India many times on engagements, as you mentioned

"Of particular note is the corruption in India that is on par with Iran. Do you really want a country as corrupt as India handling your call center work? They have access to your clients credit card information, social security information and other sensitive data? I think not!

I dont think it is apt statement, I ve interacted with many Indians ne of them dont even think of leaking such information or using those for corrupt purposes, Yes I agree that India is corrupted politically alot ofcourse most corrupt politics of the planet but dont consider every Indian employee as corrupt.

In your list Italy should come down way under, eve than India Italin are known for thier corruption since ages, with my personl experience Italy is the mst corrupted nation by all meas, ranging from politics, economy and even in games like fotball. Whatever they do has a point of corruption or intention of coruption, that is a land filled with mafia and government controlled my mafia. So please push it down.

I jus wanted 2 ask 1 question 2 d author, which century r u livin in? U r generalising Indians over here. India has probably got the most english speaking ppl in a country which is not Anglo-Saxon. Indians are very hard-working. That explains why world-class MNEs like Dell, HP, 3 Mobile have their call centres in India (despite the level of corruption). Of course there is corruption in India, but tell me one country which does not have corruption. Corruption is omnipresent, the only thing with regards to India is that corruption is evident and open. In countries like Australia, England, USA it's not as open.

A proud Indian,

All the countries in this world are having corrupted people in politics and in government offices. Instead of talking genaric about any country let us be specific....i saw that some idiot has written crap about indians........ There are people in india who are like Mother Terasa, Mahatama Gandhi, Nehru. There are still people like Abrahim lincon in United states......

God save this website and its author...

the philippines rank as 'highly corrupt'
i am from the philippines and i think that this is the most corrupt country in the world...or one of the top five- :( and i see no hope
because it's not just the government who is corrupt, almost everyone who lives here is. Some celebrities and even expats say they are proud of their (Filipino) roots, that's because they do not live here and they don't know what it's really like. it is the people themselves who are rotten, not just the leaders. it is 'everyone for himself' in this selfish society and the virtuous ones are outpowered and outnumbered.

The Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index defines corruption as the abuse of public office for private gain, and measures the degree to which corruption is perceived to exist among a country's public officials and politicians.

Myanmar tops the list...hmm
no wonder God sent that cyclone
OMG we're next!

The comments to some countries corruption by Digger are clearly racist and stupid, you should take a look to our own corrupt US officlials and politicians before point that the illegal immigration is because the Mexican corruption only.

We all know that illegal immigrants and drugs pass over our borders because the US official’s corrupted behavior as well, if Digger doesn't see that; he's clearly a fool or a corrupted informer as well.
