On Monday 10 heavily armed men in Mexican uniforms and with Humvees crossed the border escorting a drug shipment. Texas and other law enforcement officials, totalling nearly 30, engaged and an armed standoff occurred with the Mexicans fleeing back across the border abandoning an SUV's with nearly 1,500 Lbs of Marijuana in it.
This is not an isolated incident and happens quite frequently. When are Americans going to stand up and say enough already? Every American should be taking to the streets in anger at these continued incursions into our country. We need a real border fence and we need it now!
Mexican military Humvees were towing what appeared to be thousands of pounds of marijuana across the border into the United States, said Chief Deputy Mike Doyal, of the Hudspeth County Sheriff's Department.
Mexican Army troops had several mounted machine guns on the ground more than 200 yards inside the U.S. border -- near Neely's Crossing, about 50 miles east of El Paso -- when Border Patrol agents called for backup. Hudspeth County deputies and Texas Highway patrol officers arrived shortly afterward, Doyal said.
"It's been so bred into everyone not to start an international incident with Mexico that it's been going on for years," Doyal said. "When you're up against mounted machine guns, what can you do? Who wants to pull the trigger first? Certainly not us."
Doyal said deputies captured one vehicle in the incident, a Cadillac Escalade reportedly stolen from El Paso, and found 1,477 pounds of marijuana inside. The Mexican soldiers set fire to one of the Humvees stuck in the river, he said.
Doyal's deputies faced a similar incident on Nov. 17, when agents from the Fort Hancock border patrol station in Texas called the sheriff's department for backup after confronting more than six fully armed men dressed in Mexican military uniforms. The men -- who were carrying machine guns and driving military vehicles -- were trying to bring more than three tons of marijuana across the Rio Grande, Doyal said.
Chris Simcox of the Minuteman Project had this to say:
“The politically correct policies of President Bush, Sec. Chertoff and Gov. Perry regarding our border are going to get Americans killed – by Mexican soldiers, drug smugglers or al-Qaeda terrorists. These office holders seem to be more afraid of offending the government of Mexico than protecting the lives of American citizens.
“American troops, whether regular Army, National Guard or state militia under the authority of Gov. Perry, need to be deployed immediately to secure our borders.
“Sec. Chertoff recently said reports of such incursions by the Mexican Army were ‘overblown.’ He should resign his post, as he clearly has no intention of taking these incursions seriously. If heavily armed members of the Mexican Army are crossing the border with with impunity guarding drug shipments, what’s to stop al-Qaeda from doing the same with weapons of mass destruction?
I agree 100%.
When Chertoff first took over I gave him the benefit of the doubt and decided to give him a chance. He has proven almost as worthless as the head of FEMA during Hurricane Katrina. We have invasions into our country and he blows them off. We have continued surges in illegal aliens and he ignores it. He has done nothing but pay lip service to defending America and fixing it's illegal immigrationproblem and he needs to be held accountable for his non-action.
Lots more on this incident at Michelle Malkin
Mark in Mexico has more on incursions over the years including charts and figures. Including this little excerpt:
This shocking report and graphic relates that the Mexican Army has repeatedly violated our sovereignty - 9 times in 2005 and many more times in the previous years, totaling 216 incursions since 1996.
La Shawn Barber seems as pissed off as I am. She calls for Chertoff to go. And I agree 100%!
