Yearly State Education Ranking Show Impact Of Illegal Aliens

The yearly rankings of state education standings shows that states that allow in massive numbers of illegal aliens feel the effect directly in their education system. The 2005-2006 findings, a survey by Morgan Quitno Press, looks at hundreds of public school systems in all 50 states.

Out of the bottom five states, 4 of them have massive numbers of illegal aliens.

46. California
47. Nevada
48. New Mexico
49. Mississippi
50. Arizona

Of particular note is the decline of these 4 states over the past 4 years as they were flooded with the largest influx of illegal aliens ever. Illegal aliens now surpass legal immigrants.

State2002200320042005
Arizona44454850
California29444346
Nevada46494947
New Mexico50505048

English as a second language, massive class sizes and increased costs of educating illegal aliens surely have had a huge impact on these rankings. For those of you who just love these "people just looking for a job", this just shows the devastating impact they are having on the educational system.

It is not worth destroying a whole generation of citizen's and legal immigrant's educational years simply to have lower cost produce or cheap dishwashers. It's time to crack down on illegal immigration.

And how does Digger know that there are masses of illegal immigrants in those states? Did he check IDs of all those people? Of course not. There are just a lot of spics in those states (right, Digger?) so he just assumes they're illegal.

It seems strange that people are putting up such a big fuss about illegal aliens crossing the border, but no one seems to care about all of the massive amounts of drugs coming over. I don't think opinions would change if they became legal residents they would just think of some other reason they shouldn't be here.

I am an intake counselor in the Human Services department for a large county in Nevada. In January, of the applicants I interviewed for receipt of social welfare benefits, 81% of them were undocumented aliens in this country seeking welfare benefits. Of that 81%, approximately 1/2 were trying to defraud the system by applying using their anchor children's social security number as their own.

SOMETHING needs to be done. We cannot afford this any longer!

It also turns out that California, Arizona and New Mexico are all in the top 10 for the highest ratio of students per teacher in K-12.

Mississippi, Arizona and Nevada are in the lowest 10 in terms of funding per student in K-12.

I've no idea what is going on in New Mexico.

Texas, which is in the middle of the pack, in terms of funding and student ratio is notoriously absent from the blogger's list, despite their high illegal immigrant rate.

Someone please send these statistics to Tom Horne of Arizona. He put out during a womans republican meeting that Arizona was in the top ten states for education this year. Maybe one school in the nation upset the statistical table but I am not even sure if if that was another misspeak or not.

I love it when ignorant people speak. You honkies are amazing!!! I am a teacher in California and can testify that the students who most struggle are the AMERICAN born students. The immigrant students ALWAYS have stronger skills and are more critical thinkers. The ones who do badly are those who are exposed to our crappy education system all their lives. Check your stats and you will see almost every country does a better job at educating their youth--hence Venezuela being classified a completely literate nation along with Cuba and Boliva. Also the majority of students are BORN here, only 20 or 30 kids in a school of 2000 are illegal, and im no mathematician but 30 people can not have that great an impact on the numbers.

Joan, get a clue. Maybe your California school only has 20-30 illegal students. My school (almost 3000 students) is 80 percent immigrant, I find it hard to believe that only 20-30 of those would be illegal. I find that those kids do struggle more than their "American born" counterparts. You seem to forget there is a huge language barrier for those students.

dramateacherlady, you are making a huge mistake by thinking that most immigrant students are living in the U.S. illegally. This is totally FALSE. Just because someone comes to the U.S. from a different country does not mean they are doing it illegally. I must agree with Joan's statement. Most of the student I see struggling in my school (and neighboring schools) are American born children. Students who come from foreign countries generally receieve a much better education in their home country, but come to the U.S. because opportunities are more widely available. Check the statistics...and please re-think your position.

mybe joan teached physical education. in that case i would argue that immigrants are in much better shape than our kids.

Posted by: dallas at April 3, 2009 08:01 PM

teached? mybe? huh? First off you should learn English. You also prove my point that natives are the ones who really struggle. Secondly I have a credential in English, History, Math and Special Education, thus I teach them all. But you are correct they are in better shape!

This is what is meant by using ones common sense. The resourses of the tax paying public in America is not unlimited. We as Americans need to have politicians who live in the real world not some ivy tower where the real world is kept at arms length.

Whether it is education, health care, or welfare, we must for the sake of our survival become selfish, use our resourses for American citizens only.

What is this? Illeagal immegrants (mexican?)are causing the educational system to decline? really? The top graduates at my high school were all of Latin descent. And not until maybe 20 yrs ago it was predominantly white. the honor role...latino.Most peopple in sports...latino and our school was strict on keeping up your GPA to play. Immegrants arent the problem is the government they spend their money on stuff that isnt important and keep deducting the money givin to schools. that causes the educational system to go down because schools dont get provided with the amount of money to keep up to date. Thats fn stupid to say its illeagal immigrants. If it werent for immigrants non of us would be here. think about it if your so smart
