After the first release of the French hostages on September 2nd, there is now an announcement that they are to be released again.

Christian Chesnot and George Malbrunot, two French journalists where taken hostage August 20th. France has used it's considerable connections in the region to secure their release. The Islamic Army in Iraq claims responsibility for the hostage taking.

Two French journalists being held hostage in Iraq could be free within hours, an unofficial mediator said today.

Philippe Brett told Europe-1 radio that he was with the two men and that negotiations were being finalised for their release.
