So I'm standing in line at the DMV the other day, just one of our many great government institutions complete with angry people who really could care less about helping you and long lines, and I though to myself this.
So this is what people want for a health care system?
Umm, no thanks.
People calling for a Universal Health Care system have totally forgotten what government service is like. You may try to argue that the health care system will be different, but you can't honestly believe that. Maybe in some Utopian world a government agency would be set up and everyone would be handing out lollipops and smiles and there would be no lines. In the end though a Universal Health Care system would end up just like the post office and the DMV, a big bloated agency with unhelpful government staff who are just there for a paycheck and who have no real interest in you as an individual.

Most of the people calling for this kind of institution of Universal Health Care are the politicians and the rich. Politicians get government health care, but they get it in a small system where it is centered around them and they don't have to wait. As for the rich, well you can bet they won't be waiting in line for this "free care" so what do they care? They can feel good about themselves that they're helping out the poor and downtrodden. The fact is there is no way for that type of system to work. When people see it as "free" they will head to the hospital for every little item they encounter in hopes that they won't have to pay a dime themselves for their care.
Anyone with a few brain cells can see where a system like this would head. And in the meantime, if you have a real health concern, well get in line because there surely will be many others who feel their concern is more important. After all a hangnail is more important than your hemorrhaging intestine.

Of course, the next phase is government intrusion into our personal lives under the pretext of "preventive care," in which twinkies and risky behavior (motorcycles, for example), are banned.
Ironic, isn't it, that Russia and China have gone capitalist while the USA is going full bore socialist?
