Congressman Tom Tancredo of Colorado has announced that he is forming a presidential exploratory committee. I jumped for joy upon hearing the news and shouted with glee and let out a few happy expletives!

Tancredo will have a rocky run facing down the big names of the GOP and taking heat from big businesses who benefit from illegal aliens and proponents of amnesty for illegal aliens. Expect to see many negative stories written about him.

There is one thing Tom Tancredo will win though and that is putting immigration in the spotlight for the 2008 presidential election. I will be behind him 100% on this effort. It's time to fix our immigration system and Tom Tancredo is just the man to do it.

Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado, a leading opponent of illegal immigration, said Tuesday he would take the first step toward a longshot 2008 presidential bid dedicated to the immigration issue.

Tancredo, 61, formed an exploratory committee to raise money for what he termed an "arduous and undeniably uphill battle" for the presidency that would advance his hard-line views on immigration.

"I am considering this campaign because of my commitment to real immigration reform: reform that first and foremost is dedicated to the security and well-being of the citizens of the United States, and to respect for the rule of law in our beloved nation," Tancredo said.
