It is the fall of an embraced darling of the internet. Chitika, the advertising company touted as the "AdSense Killer" by some, popped up all over sites on the internet with their unique little ads for camera's and other products (see image at right). After touted reports of people making hundreds a day it was quick to spread everywhere, with some sites totally removing their established revenue sources such as AdSense advertising in favor of the Chitika ads. Now Chitika has implemented a revenue audit that has killed up to 90% of some publishers expected revenue.
Diggers Realm applied and was rejected for the program and now I'm glad I was. Publishers all across the web are furious and letting their hate for the company be known. I am covering the backlash in depth over at my Inside Online Advertising blog. Here is a little taste.
