House Votes To Punish States Abusing Eminent Domain

Bookmark and Share

The House voted 376-38 to punish states abusing eminent domain and the seizure of private property for use by private developers.

Hallelujah!

The bill would cut off all federal economic development funding for 2 years to states that allow seizure of properties under the eminent domain rule for commercial development.

I reported on Oct 3, 2005, on the abuse of the Kelo ruling by the Supreme Court in my entry "Riviera Beach Mayor Stabs 6000 Residents In The Back With Eminent Domain Abuse"

California Yankee has a listing of all the votes.

Below are a list of the assholes who voted against the bill and would take your house if they had a chance. Watch out if you live in New York, where the Democrats would love to decide what to do with your property.

Hey Congress, we really are watching you and we'll remember your traitorous vote this time next year!

Contending that the Supreme Court has undermined a pillar of American society, the sanctity of the home, the House overwhelmingly approved a bill Thursday to block the court-approved seizure of private property for use by developers.

...

But opponents argued that the federal government should not be interceding in what should be a local issue. "We should not change federal law every time members of Congress disagree with the judgment of a locality when it uses eminent domain for the purpose of economic development," said Rep. Bobby Scott (D-Va.)

...

The Bush administration, backing the House bill, said in a statement that "private property rights are the bedrock of the nation's economy and enjoy constitutionally protected status. They should also receive an appropriate level of protection by the federal government."

Ownership of your property -- without fear of the government seizing it without just cause -- is a constitutional right and anyone above who voted against this bill is a socialist asshole that feels the government should decide what and who should own property and where.

I notice a(n) (un)suprising predominance of the letter -D- in those votes.
