There are rumors going around that there may be a new Star Trek movie out in the next 2 to 3 years. Current speculation is that it would be a whole new cast and ship.
Star Trek franchise head Rick Berman recently made the first mention of a possible timeframe for the next Trek feature film, saying fans shouldn't expect a movie in the very near future.
"I think that if this film is made it certainly won't get finished in the next year," Berman told Ian Spelling, for the British Star Trek Magazine (via the Sci-Fi Pulse). And although Berman didn't specify exactly when a new Trek movie could arrive in theatres, he did hint at what timeframe he would personally like to be aiming for. "If it gets done in two years or three years I think that timeframe for a new, fresh feature with a whole different outlook would be fine."
Berman once more addressed the reasons for Star Trek: Enterprise's cancellation, mentioning once again the over-saturation of the franchise, but also the hefty pricetag associated with a show like Star Trek. "Unfortunately, our show costs a lot more than [the Sci-Fi Channel's] shows do," he said. "A lot of those shows are shot with budgets not much more than half of what out budgets are. I think that to continue our show at the level of production we've kept it at, to keep these actors, it would probably be prohibitive to do it on cable."
However, Berman did suggest that for a future Trek series, this situation might change. "[It] certainly would be possible," he said. "And the answer is that the powers that be at Paramount seem to feel that the time has come to give things a rest."

Oh by all means lets get a new cast and new ship and new ideas lets just screw up the whole startrek franchise as much as we can so no one will watch it any more.first of all the people at paramount wouldn,t know a good thing if it came up and bit them on the butt,i say we keep the next gen crew and do something with whats left of the original crew.get new writers and new ideas thats great but you gotta go with what the people want and they want picard and kirk.don,t let the next gen guys go quietly into the night and waste away like the original cast did.because once they are gone they are gone .heres an idea why don,t you make some of those startrek books into movies instead of paying some idiot to write a movie thats a prequel to the series who would watch it anyways it,s not like it,s starwars with characters everyone knows the only way it might work if it was based on a young kirk or picard then you might get away with it.i,ll tell you what why don,t we get lucas and speilberg on it maybe they can screw it up less then idiots you got doing it now nuff said!

for 18 years I have enjoyed the idea of a future as they crew of TNG has shown. I'd like to see more from the TNG cast and in Enterprise E. But even is this is not possible, I hope for much more from Star Trek!

Listen up, i agree the Next Generation Crew is what most of us want. However I think if its gonna take 2-3 years before the next movie, then they have plenty of time to come up with a fresh start and a great cast(still wouldnt leave out SOME of the past cast).
A good idea would be more based on the future when the Achilles was made or prehaps even Further.(like when they find a way to fix DATA's copy.
